C Drive is the place where we all usually have our operating system and by default what we download and save goes to the same drive. 2. Keep checking the list of installed programs and remove unused:

Sometimes we install a program for one time use and after using it we forget that it is still there on the drive. These programs not only take space on the drive, but they also keep using resources in the background. To uninstall unused programs, go to control panel and review the list of installed programs by clicking on un install a program button if you find any unused program here you can remove it easily.

3. Clearing temporary and junk files:

Another thing which can be done to manage storage on your computer is cleaning temporary and junk files. This temporary junk includes browser cache, files on recycle bin and other temp files created by programs installed on your computer. Luckily windows come with a disc clean up wizard. You can run this wizard by right clicking the drive C: and then going to properties. Here you will find Disk clean up button and you can use it to clean up your hard disk. To clear out browser cache you can go to browser settings and then choose to clear history and cache files.

4. Sorting files and preview them:

It is always a better idea to sort files with the name and their creation date this is how you can quickly know that what is useful and what is useless for you. Another advantage of newer version of windows is that you can see larger preview of files which makes it easier for you to decide which files you can delete and which you should keep. Sorting files by size can help you to know that which files are having largest size and then you can instantly delete them whenever you require disc space instantly.

5. Exporting important files to cloud storage:

Both from security and storage prospective it is important to take online backup of your important files. Most of the online backup portals protect your backup sets with passwords and another advantage of online backup is that you can access your files from anywhere anytime. It works as your escape plan in case you of the system crash.

6. Create short cuts instead of creating copies:

We usually copy files to other drives as per our convenience, but it only multiplies and occupy size on our disk. So, it is a better way to create shortcut of files instead of coping them everywhere. It is not necessary that you can only create shortcut of files on desktop only you can also create shortcuts on other folders. So, if you have created different folders for different file types then you need not to copy files to them you can also create shortcuts for files you want to access from a specific folder.
